Biography
Debbie Goldsmith (b. 1969) is a British artist known for her large-scale abstract paintings and hand-tufted textile works that respond to landscape, colour, and texture. Her practice bridges painting and textile, with recent work drawing inspiration from the natural environments of the North West and the North Wales coastline.
Goldsmith studied Fine Art at Coventry Polytechnic, where she developed her foundations in painting and drawing. She is currently based in Cheshire, where she maintains an active studio practice. In 2001, she was commissioned by Manchester Art Gallery to create new work, and that
same year her paintings were selected for the restaurant and atrium of the Lowry Hotel in Manchester as part of its original interior design scheme.
Her textile work, developed during the pandemic, evolved from a desire to reconnect with materiality and surface. Using dead stock Axminster wool sourced from a mill in Halifax,
Goldsmith creates hand-tufted rugs based on her abstract paintings—unique, richly textured pieces that function as both floor and wall-based landscapes.
Goldsmith’s work has been exhibited widely in the UK and internationally.
