PAINTINGS
Walking the Cheshire countryside, I make rapid drawings and paintings in shifting weather , sometimes from a pause, often from a sideways glance. There is no fixed viewpoint; instead, images accumulate as overlapping fragments, echoing the way we experience place through moments, impressions and peripheral glimpses.
Influenced by abstract expressionism, I use bold, gestural marks and a saturated palette to convey weather, light and mood rather than literal topography. Through layering and transparency, earlier impressions persist beneath newer ones, creating a palimpsest of time. My paintings are as much records of movement and atmosphere as they are compositions: they attempt to render the tempo of walking, the arrival and retreat of weather, the stitching of fleeting views into memory.
In this way, my work translates the particularity of Cheshire into a visual language of colour, energy and overlap, inviting the viewer to inhabit a shifting, sensory landscape.
